In Part 2 of our focus on risk planning, attendees will participate in an interactive simulated project risk assessment and risk plan development. A risk plan template will be used to capture the results. Participants will provide input to the plan, similar to a project team, and will also be able to observe how the template can serve as documentation for risk identification, ranking, strategy and plan development.

Project Managers produce project status reports on a regular basis. These reports are intended to provide up-to-date status of the project to team members, stakeholders, and project sponsors. However, the truth is that too often project status is derived from inaccurate and/or incomplete information. During this discussion we will look at common problems that lead to inaccurate status reports as well as some techniques that when applied can lead to more truthful reports.

According to the research, most project managers use either the Red/Yellow/Green (R/Y/G) or the Percent Complete status reports. We will look at these two report formats in more detail and share tips and warnings for compiling and distributing these reports.

Earned Value Management is a project management methodology that integrates schedule, costs, and scope to measure project performance. Based on planned and actual values, EVM predicts the future and enables project managers to adjust accordingly. Chapter member and leader, John Finley, will present this method that he has successfully applied to his projects.

But blockchains will only be useful if lots of people understand, trust, and adopt them.  Enter “The Blockchain Game,” a hands-on exercise that explains the core principles or blockchains and serves as a launching pad for a discussion of blockchain’s real-world applications.

We’ll play the blockchain game, explore current blockchain projects, and have an open discussion of what blockchain might mean for project management.
